Listening to the Voice of ‘God’

After the Iniko fiasco with that Christian preacher and songwriter blatantly attempting to steal her song in the name of God, I thought we should all be clear about the voice of God and what discernment really does. It also brought up the question that many of us aren’t ready to deal with.

“What if the voices some of them heard in the Bible, weren’t God?”

Bible verse 1 Timothy 6:5
That Christian Lady is just one example of people who do evil in the name of God.

What Happens When the Voice You Listen to Is Not God

The fact that the Bible mentions that the voices that some of the people are listening to weren’t God’s is proof enough of the possibility that some of the people in the bible weren’t acting on God’s behalf. This means many wars in both the past and present have been committed for greed while calling it God. And we all know of the Crusades and most recently, the Israel-Palestine War.

Now, I’ve watched that video where the Christian lady claimed she felt a stab in her heart, and then a voice told her to “rewrite the lyrics” of Jericho. Now every songwriter can recognize inspiration and sometimes that ‘inspiration’ ends up being plagiarism which is where Miss Thing ended up. But anyway back to that stab in her heart which I thought was the first red flag.

Why was this song affecting you this much? And in such a negative way?

I’ve heard the song. I thought it was beautifully empowering both spiritually and culturally. Then like most songs, after a while, I forgot about it, until someone tried to steal it from the creator whose music she ironically dubbed ‘demonic’.

Now anyone who is old enough to remember when they claimed all rock music was demonic knows the real truth behind her claim. When rock music was demonic no one was out there trying to sing it over in the name of fixing it. Christian rock became a thing years later with artists doing their thing legally.

So my question is if you hate the sound so much and the beat is demonic why sing the new song with the same beat and eerily similar lyrics? (She just substituted God in the lyrics) Another question we should ask ourselves before we take action on anything (which this lady clearly didn’t do) is to verify it was God who was speaking and not the spirit of her racist ancestors. You see she mentioned that she discerned that it was evil and from that it was clear that she didn’t know how discernment is supposed to work.

The devil isn’t the only thing that can speak to you, Your prejudices can do that too.

How the Spirit of Discernment is Supposed to Work

Now, one thing people forget is that discernment isn’t just for identifying evil. The spirit of discernment is to keep you from doing evil. The spirit of discernment works with wisdom to keep you on the path of righteousness. It is supposed to help you accurately judge what is of God and what is not and that includes identifying the voice of God.

If you are discerning things without even figuring out if you are being guided by God then you aren’t being guided by the spirit of discernment. You are being influenced by your own prejudices and experiences.

And by the way, the spirit of discernment is not to be used only once.

I think this happens with many preachers and people called in religious life. They assume because God called them to service that the voice they are listening to is always God. And that’s how the devil gets them to lead their flock astray. The devil uses their ego and makes them feel special that ‘God’ is talking to them every day while leading them further and further away from God.

You are supposed to use discernment every time you hear that voice of ‘God’. Never assume that God will tell you to do wrong things because you are ‘God’s chosen’. And since it happens prevalently today, who’s to say that a few prophets and leaders weren’t led astray since the days of the Old Testament?

I used the lyric video because Iniko’s original video doesn’t have captions.

Is it Possible that the Voices Some Prophets Heard Weren’t God’s?

This is just my theory so don’t lose your mind.

It always bothered me that The wars and shady stuff that happened in the Old Testament seemed completely different from what Jesus came and taught on behalf of His Father. If Jesus was directly sharing God’s thoughts then why did all the crazy stuff happen before? And was it really God that walked with them?

We know that angels walked the earth, could shapeshift, and had fallen. We know that the devil and other gods existed in the bible. So is it really that far-fetched to think that some of those leaders weren’t hearing the voice of God?

It would also explain why God had so many different names. Especially, if both God and the devil were sending representatives to speak to people on their behalf. He probably had to use the name as code to verify to the listener that it is God that they are hearing.

Maybe some of the prophets were influenced similarly to our Christian songwriter by their own desires and did things in the name of ‘God’ while fulfilling the wishes of the devil, After all the devil makes a more prominent appearance in the New Testament than the Old Testament. Maybe the reason for this is that God had a stronger physical presence in the Old Testament so the devil would have to use more subtle means to get followers and once God wasn’t so present he could do things more openly.

Bible verse Hebrews 2:1
If you know God is good, why are you doing evil in His name?

Be Very Cautious When Listening to the Voice of ‘God’.

We need discernment not only discern God’s voice in our own head but also when it comes out of public figures, family members, and friends. We need to verify and validate every instruction that comes from God. It is not that we don’t trust God, it is because we should know that as human beings we are susceptible to other voices that are not God’s. As Christians, we cannot and should not be accepting each and every person who claims to hear the voice of God without verifying that what they do truly benefits the Kingdom of God and not just their own pockets.

After all, God doesn’t need money, so he doesn’t need us to rob someone to get it. He created the earth, so he can give us our rightful place on it without killing people for it. He controls eternal life so we don’t need to ruin someone else’s life to make ours better.

So we need to be very careful with those people who are listening to the voice of God. The minute their actions seem less than godly, we should show them where that voice lied to them. And if they refuse, like our Christian songwriter, we should stop listening to their words. After all, nothing they say after that will be of God.
